About the event
Manny Laureano is a living legend in the Minnesota Orchestra. He is very well-known and much admired by countless music-lovers.
Manny is principal trumpet with the Minnesota Orchestra. He has played in the Orchestra for 44 years and will be retiring this year. Manny has performed solos in all the Orchestra’s concert series. In 2003 he and Doc Severinsen premiered the Stephen Paulus’ Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra, written for the musicians; and he has played countless concertos throughout his long tenure.
Manny has commissioned a number of works for trumpet; has led several series of Minnesota Orchestra Young People’s Concerts; and has served as assistant conductor of the Orchestra during the 2005-2006 season.
Like FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra, Manny has long been involved in music education for young people. He served, along with his wife, Claudette Laureano, as artistic director of Minnesota Youth Symphonies for 32 years. MYS has three full orchestras, one string orchestra and a wind orchestra with 400 students participating annually. Alumni of MYS hol positions with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
Manny currently serves as music director and conductor for the Bloomington Symphony.
FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra is honored to be celebrating the remarkable career of Manny Laureano. We look forward to presenting him at our ACCENT program on Tuesday, April 1 in the Target Atrium at Orchestra Hall. Hear Manny talk about his remarkable career. Come join us in toasting the legend!
